Mercedes Schlapp, the White House strategy director for communications has a challenging task. It is not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to be the adviser to strategic communications at the White House. Yet, through all of it Schlapp has stayed determined to focus on her task at hand, working closely with the White House's political affairs and legislative affairs departments and policy shops as well with the larger communications team for policy-related rollouts. In her current role, she has concentrated on a variety of concerns, such as school safety as well as opioid abuse. At the moment the director is not communicating with reporters. The month of March was when she received lots of attention from the media when her name was mentioned as a possible candidate in the race to replace Hope Hicks in the role as communications director. Mercedes Schlapp does not have a straightforward job as White House strategic communication adviser. Her job is made difficult because she works with the president who serves as his communications director. There are also multiple legal proceedings that could disrupt the administration's strategy for communication, and several Cabinet secretaries entangled in personal disputes. Schlapp did not change her goals, and she collaborated closely with White House policy and political teams. In the beginning, she has concentrated on school safety issues, addiction infrastructure, trade and drug issues. The current position she holds doesn't require much contact with reporters. The company received lots of attention from the media when she was announced as the candidate for replacing Hope Hicks, the communications director. The fight has been bitter. Schlapp allied with Tony Sayegh who was also a candidate. They started fighting in media. Schlapp made a call to Sayegh when The Washington Examiner printed a bad article about the former president.
